Shopping
When you walk into a shop, the description of the room will give you all the information you need to find where the merchandise is. For example, the shop may talk about racks or shelves or cabinets. Look <on> or <in> the various displays to see the merchandise. If something is in a cabinet, you will not see it when you look at the cabinet, so don't forget to look inside.
Example:
[House of Grilla, Gentlemen's Haberdasher]
Standing across the shop from each other, two identical wrought iron racks are stocked with elegant merchandise. Reflecting a raised platform that is surrounded by a few chairs is a full-length copper-backed mirror. A huge potted plant sits on the deep gray carpet in one corner, its leafy fronds overhanging a small glass and wood curio, and a brightly painted porcelain urn stands in the other. The bronze door seems to be the only break in the paneled walls. Also here is Lord Grilla.
Obvious Exits: None.
This shop has merchandise on both racks and the curio. Example: <look on rack> will return something like, On a wrought iron rack is a fitted watchet linen shirt, some stitched gray corduroy breeches, some tawny kersey trousers, a fine yellow cambric vest, a soft gray satin shirt, a fine black fustian shirt, a fine purple samite shirt, some fine yellow fustian breeches, some brown satin trousers, a soft siskin silk vest, some woven scarlet corduroy breeches, a fitted murrey cambric vest, some white satin trousers, and a fitted yellow linen shirt.
To get information about a particular item, type <appraise item>.
Example:
<appraise silk vest> will return, Lord Grilla says, "I will sell you a soft siskin silk vest for 35 sovereigns.
To buy a particular item, type <buy item from hegnus>. (Make sure you have your coins in your hand.)
Example:
<buy siskin vest> will return, You ask Lord Grilla about buying a soft siskin silk vest.
Lord Grilla takes your small pile of coins and hand you back your change.
Lord Grilla gives a soft siskin silk vest to you.
In this example, since there are several different vests, so if you wanted the soft siskin silk vest, you would need to specify that.
Hints: To make sure you get the item you want, always <appraise> first. The salesperson will state the full name of the item, thus confirming that you have given enough information to insure that you get the exact item you want. Even a gentle 'tap' to the item you would like to buy would signal whether it is, in fact, that item.
Custom Ordering
In a custom shop, you will see a sign in the room's description.
For example:
[Old Town, Jizo's Ladies Clothing and Accessories]
Through the bright persimmon-colored noren draped across the doorway, orange-tinted light filters into this dimly lit interior gently illuminating the cedarwood-edged shoji panels that form its walls. Hanging from racks and hooks and covering low tables, a wide variety of ladies clothing and accessories clutter the modestly decorated shop. Also here is Jizo.
Obvious Exits: out.
The shop smells of newly-dyed cloth combined with the fresh woodsy scent of cedar.
A blue silk sign rustles softly in the subtle breeze coming through the noren.
This sign is hidden in the sound section of the room's description, we can be evil you know.
You read the sign...
